New Albany kicked off the second half of their season, as they traveled to Mooreville for the Troopers' Tournament last Friday and Saturday. Both the 'Dawgs and Lady 'Dawgs went 2-0 in the tournament, as John Stroud's Lady Bulldogs are now 14-0 on the season.
New Albany 65 Belmont 63 (boys)
Malcom Spears and Adrian Gamble led the way as the Bulldogs returned to the .500 mark after defeating Belmont 65-63 on the first day of the Mooreville Tournament Friday.
New Albany took a 13 point lead into the second frame, after posting 26 first quarter points. Belmont would respond before the half, as they outscored the 'Dawgs 27-12, making it 40-38 in favor of Belmont at halftime.
The score remained close throughout the second half with New Albany holding on for their sixth win of the year.
Spears led New Albany with 17, while Gamble added 16. Todd Gamble also contributed with 12 on the night.
For Belmont, Derek Joslin led all scorers with 20, while while Jon Harrison added 19, followed by Cage Smith with 11 and Alex Sparks with 10.
New Albany 66 Belmont 46 (girls)
A 21-point first quarter propelled the Lady Bulldogs to their 13th win of the year, as they defeated Belmont by 20 last Friday.
New Albany jumped to a 21-9 lead after the first frame then added another 16 in the second to lead 37-16 at the half, as they held Belmont to single digits in each of the first two quarters.
Jazmine Spears led the way with 22 points, follwed by Micha Washington and Nyambi Penson with 10 each.
Belmont was led by Anna Brooke Page with 15, Zoe Hammock with 2 and Leslie Robinson with 11.
New Albany 69 Mooreville 39 (girls)
The Lady Bulldogs took on the Lady Troopers last Saturday and ended the tournament with a perfect 14-0 record, defeating the host team 69-39.
After a 12-12 tie in the first quarter, New Albany's offense woke up, scoring 22 in the second frame to Mooreville's 11 to lead 34-22 at the half.
The Lady 'Dawgs tough defense held the Lady Troopers to only 16 points in the second half, while New Albany poured on 35 to expand the lead and put the game away.
Micha Washington led New Albany in scoring,followed by Tiara and Kabrina Lucas.
Chelsea Hussey and Carrie Hall each scored seven for Mooreville.
New Albany 70 Mooreville 67 (boys)
New Albany had another close game, but were able to down the Troopers 70-67 in the final of the Mooreville Tournament.
After taking a 29-28 lead to the half, New Albany's offense doubled the Troopers 26-13 in the third frame. Mooreville would have a late rally, but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for their seventh win of the season.
Adrain Gamble led New Albany with 17, while Kareem Brown added 14, Brandon White had 12 and Cadarius Coburn had 11.
Ben Kingsley scored 30 for the Troopers in the losing effort. Justin Webb also contributed with 17.
The Lady Bulldogs remain a perfect 14-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 7-6. New Albany will be on the road for their second divisional matchup, as they will travel to Saltillo Tuesday before hosting Myrtle in a rematch from earlier this season on Friday.
