Walnut 65 West Union 63
Hunter McQuary stepped up for the Eagles with 24 points, but it would not be enough as West Union fell at home versus Walnut 65-63 Tuesday night.
After leading by seven at the half, Walnut scored 22 in the third to take a 50-39 lead into the final quarter. The Eagles would rally in the final frame, outscoring Walnut 24-15, but it would not be enough as West Union falls to 4-16.
Wesley Jumper scored 19 in the effort.For Walnut, Shauuille Perry led with 29, followed by Ryan Alexander and Santez Small, each with 10 points.
West Union will face East Union in the first round of the Union County Tournament on Thursday night. The Eagles and Urchins are slated for 7:00 p.m. start at East Union.
Myrtle 86 Strayhorn 54
After falling at New Albany last Friday, Myrtle returned to their winning ways, defeating Strayhorn on the road, 86-54.
The Hawks held a 48-26 advantage at halftime, and did not let up, scoring another 38 in the second half to easily pick up their 14th win of the year.
Justin Jourdan and David Wilson led Myrtle with 14 a piece, while Steven Foster scored a game high 24 to lead Strayhorn.
Myrtle enters the Union County Tournament as the number one seed for the boys and will enjoy a first round bye. The Hawks will take on the East Union-West Union winner Friday night at 8:30.
Mantachie 43 East Union 40
A 19-5 advantage in the final frame allowed Mantachie to pull away from the Urchins, picking up the 43-40 win over East Union Tuesday night.
With the score tied at nine after the first quarter, East Union outscored the Mustangs 11-8 in the second, to take a three point lead to the half.
Scoring another 15 in the third, the Urchins led 35-24 entering the final quarter. Mantachie responded offensively and East Union allowed the lead to slip away.
Gareth Pannell for East Union and Justin Leveck for Mantachie led their respective squads with 11 points a piece on the evening.
The Urchins fall to 8-11 on the year and will be the fourth seed in the Union County Tournament this weekend. The host team will face off against West Union Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in first round action.
