History of the Bankhead Highway is set September 16 at Museum
New Albany’s Bankhead Street is one of many so named streets across the nation. The Bankhead Highway, developed in the early part of the 20th century, was part of the National Auto Trail system. It eventually became US Highway 78 and is now on its way to becoming Interstate 22.
The history of early plans and possible routes of this important road that led from the Zero Mile Marker in Washington DC to San Diego will be the topic of this month's Museum Moments as local resident and photographer Lowry Wilson talks about the The Bankhead Highway this Thursday, September 16, 12 noon at the Union County Heritage Museum, 114 Cleveland St..
