The Lady Eagles are hard at work this summer, as they recently played in a summer basketball tournament in Florida, as well as hosting their own shoot around at West Union.

Head coach Andy Kirk took his squad for the second year in a row to participate in the Emerald Coast Sports Camp in  Florida, where the Lady Eagles finished with a 7-2 record overall, while rising seniors Kimberly Jumper and April Rollins picked up outstanding player honors.

“This was our second year to travel there, and we did good this year going 7-2,” Kirk said. “We played some really good teams, and it was a good experience for us to travel there and take on that kind of competition.”

Coming home, the Lady Eagles have hosted several nights of summer competition, taking on county rivals Ingomar, New Albany and East Union, as well as other local teams. The goal, to keep the athletes in shape throughout the summer, as well as looking at what they have for the upcoming season.

“We're just trying to get some area teams in and work on what we need to,” Kirk said. “It's become so competitive over the years, so it's common to have tournaments like this. We only have an alloted time to work during the summer, then we stop practicing until October. I won't work them too much, but it's good to get in this time and not only have our varsity girls playing, but also seeing what we have at junior varsity and seeing what we have for the future. That goes not only for us, but for every team playing here.”
