Lady 'Dawgs in tie for division lead

New Albany earned two big wins last week and are now in the middle of a three-way tie for first in their division.

The Lady Bulldogs had a late surge in the county tournament, winning their last two, and that momentum carried into last week’s wins over North Pontotoc, 4-1, and Tishomingo County, 9-3.
“We had a sluggish start in the county tournament and we recovered a little too late,” NAHS head coach Shane Sanderson said. “I’ve told the girls from day one that our goal is to win every inning and we talked about eliminating errors. We carried that into our games last week, picking up wins against two teams we haven’t beaten in a long time.”
Against the Lady Vikings, Morgan Beaty and Jalanna Cameron each had multiple hits, including a double by Cameron, and in last Thursday’s game at Tishomingo County, Cameron, along with Amber Mirfield and Shannon Goode, each had multiple hits for the Lady ‘Dawgs.
We had sound defense and we connected on timely hits against North Pontotoc and that carried over into the Tish. game as well,” Sanderson said.
The three-way tie currently includes New Albany, Pontotoc and North Pontotoc. The Lady Bulldogs will have a tough road in their final regular season games, starting with Pontotoc on Tuesday night.
“Pontotoc jumped on us early and we never really responded,” Sanderson said of the early season loss. “Our goal is to win out to secure a spot in the playoffs, but we feel like if we can win two of the next three, we could still make it as well. Right now our focus is on Pontotoc, getting the offense and defense going, and we’ll see what happens.”
The Lady ‘Dawgs will close out the regular season, traveling to North Pontotoc on Thursday and hosting the Lady Braves next Tuesday, September 28, for Senior night.
