James Walter Callicutt, Jr., 92, of Myrtle, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 at his home.
He was born Dec. 17, 1919 in Myrtle to the James Walter Callicutt, Sr. and Minnie Irwin Callicutt. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired farmer, a former operator of W.T. Lamar Feed Mill and Cotton Gin and a former employee of Y-Lab. He was a member of Myrtle Baptist Church.
Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at Myrtle Baptist Church with Dr. David Skinner officiating. Interment was in Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by a daughter, Jane Stembridge (Jim) of New Albany; two sons, Wayne Callicutt (Paula) of Rocky Face, Ga. and Jimmy Callicutt (Karen) of Myrtle; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia McMillen Callicutt; his parents; and five sister, Ruddell Butler, Beatrice Henry, Ruby Coltharp, Totsye Neal and Inez Callicutt.
Pallbearers were Will Callicutt, Jay Callicutt, Tony Richardson, Randy Huffman, Jonathan Callicutt and Victor Stembridge.
Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at the funeral home. The body lay in state at Myrtle Baptist Church on Thursday for one hour prior to service.
In honor of Mr. Callicutt’s service to his country, United Funeral Service flew the U.S. Army flag during his visitation and service.
