West Union and Ingomar wrapped up their 2011 golf campaigns, competing in the 1A state championships at Beau Pre Country Club in Natchez this week.
The Falcons finished with an overall score of 758, which was good for third place in the five-team event.
Austin Bynum of West Union led his team, shooting a 158 over two days, which was good for a fourth place finish as an individual, but the Eagles would finish as a team with a score of 874. Bynum was the 1A medalist in the 2010 State Championships.
St. Aloysius won the team title, finishing with a two-day score of 638, which was 36 strokes better than the second place team, Cathedral, which shot an overall 674.
Nick Mekus of St. Aloysius was the medalist, shooting a 152, six strokes above Bynum, beating Cathedral’s Scott Scarbrough by one stroke. St. Aloysius’ Chris Ingram shot one stroke better than Bynum to finish in third.
Ingomar was led by Chandler Thompson, who finished with a 180, and Matthew Hale shot a 183. Sam Rorie finished with a 197, improving his score by nine strokes, shooting a 103 on the first day and a 94 on the second. Tanner Golding rounded out the Falcons’ scores with a 198.
Will Wooten was the second best finisher for the Eagles, finishing with a 215, while Drew Gray shot a 239 and the first day score of Shafer (133) and the second day score of C.J. Burks (128) were combined for the Eagles' final score.
