The Watermelon Festival in Water Valley had two winners from our family. They competed for the title with the crop from Lafayette Springs at Little Kettle Creek Cabin. Sophie Hooker won second prize with 152 lbs., and her grandfather Graden Hooker won the event with 157 lbs. The rivalry was intense. Earlier in the growing season Sophie harvested two cabbages that topped the scales at 31 lbs each. Other family members attending were Cade, Megan, Ella Kate, Braxton, Brooke, Harper and Colt Hooker. Maggie and I stayed home to beat the heat. Lou Gasto
