In today’s world, consumers have access to many absolutely marvelous electronic contraptions or devices that make our lives better and keep us informed about what’s happening around us and products and services that are available for our selection. It’s all great and we are a better nation for these opportunities.
The home computer has made all this possible and, as a newspaper, we have recognized the importance and position the world-wide web has along side of us in terms of the distribution of news and advertising and have been working very hard to update and upgrade our web presence for our readers. We consider our website as a third edition of the New Albany Gazette each week because along with the most immediate news and advertising of the day, we will also place late breaking items, sometimes prior to those items appearing in the print edition of the newspaper.
Over the past year, although our web site has been available to our readers, we have been in a state of “a work in process” or “under construction” so to speak. We have fine tuned almost every part of our web site giving our readers the ability to place classified ads on line, subscribe to the newspaper on line, see our local merchant’s display ads on line, see slide shows of local events, make comments on local issues and post them on our site.
We’re committed to making our web presence that third edition of the Gazette and we will continue to place all the news, sports, obits, community correspondents on our web site for those who have not yet had time to read their print edition. Our commitment extends to a partnership we have with Google through which we can monitor the number of times people access our site (important to advertisers), what part of our site they look at and where our visitors are when they enter our site.
Through this monitoring we already know our website at www.newalbanygazette.com is being accessed from all over New Albany, Union County, Northeast Mississippi, Mississippi, from all over the nation and many countries all over the world. That’s because the news is current, not warmed over from last week, we report Union County sports and we are rapidly becoming the window to New Albany and Union County on the world-wide web.
The best part is that we are continuing to improve weekly and will be able to serve you and your neighbors with news and advertising information even better with both our print editions on Wednesday and Fridays and everyday on the web.
