And so opens the book on the 2013 high school football season.
Of course, the season hasn't officially started - we are saving that momentous occasion for Friday, August 23 - but jamboree games are as close as you can get to real the thing.
While the East Union Urchins held off on participating in a scrimmage, the New Albany Bulldogs headed up Highway 30 to my old stomping grounds to play for a couple of hours against the Kossuth Aggies.
The game ended with no score, but both the Aggies and the Bulldogs showed a lot of promise for the upcoming season. Defense would really tell the story of the game, with several outsanding stops by both squads when the offense got into the red zone and really made a push for a score.
For NAHS Head Coach Ron Price, the night was a success.
"The kids overall tonight played with great effort, great attitude and gave us everything that we wanted to see. Now we've got to get back, look at the film and then, as coaches, make the right adjustments and put them in place for next Friday night," Price said.
The Bulldogs will face off against Water Valley in their home opener, while East Union hosts Houlka. Both games will kickoff at 7 p.m.
