Falkner holds on for wins at East Union

Trey Barkley and the Urchins almost posted a big come-from-behind win, but fell short in the end against Falkner, 74-71 Tuesday night.

East Union fell behind by as many as 11 in the second half, but were led back into the game by the senior’s five second-half three-pointers.
Kirk Fryar started the comeback with his free throws making it a nine-point game, and Chris Tables followed that with one of the Urchins’ five fourth quarter three-pointers.
Barkley made it a four-point game and later tied the contest at 66. Tables gave the Urchins their first and only lead of the second half, 69-68 before the Eagles out scored East Union, 5-2 to win the game.
Barkley led East Union with 25 points, followed by Tables and D.J. Armstrong with 13 points each.
Will Robertson posted 11 fourth quarter points for the Eagles, finishing with 23 in the game, while Kendrick Williams added 18, connecting on 10-of-12 free throws in the final frame. Clay McCoy posted a big third quarter, scoring nine of his 11 points.
Falkner 62 East Union 40 (g)
Dezjarna Bryant scored 26 points for the Lady Urchins, who were unable to keep up with Falkner, falling 62-40.
Bryant scored nine first quarter points to keep the Lady Urchins in the game, down only 14-12.
Deoanna Prather scored 10 second quarter points and helped lead a 7-0 run for the Lady Eagles, who were up by nine, 34-25 at the break.
Falkner broke away in the second half, going on an 11-2 run in the third quarter and made it a 20 point game late to earn the win.
Ashley Leach scored 10 points for East Union, while Ambeka Peterson led Falkner with 23 points.
Prather finished with 18 points for the Lady Eagles, while Brianna Williams added 12.
East Union will play at Mantachie in a make-up Thursday night and play their regular season finale against Baldwyn next Tuesday, Feb. 1.
