Bulldogs ready for playoffs

-A A +A
By Elizabeth Zaremba

New Albany opens its postseason run on Friday and hopes to build on its impressive showing in the regular season finale last week.

“I was very proud of that performance, and maybe that will give us some momentum going into the playoffs,” coach Ron Price said. “Our defense has been solid all year, and hopefully they can keep getting better along with the offense.”
Awaiting the Bulldogs in the first round is Houston out of Region 4-4A. At 6-5, the Hilltoppers have improved tremendously under first year coach Donnie Rogers, and Price spoke of their athleticism.
“They went from 2-9 to 6-5 under Coach Rogers,” Price said. “That’s a very big turnaround, and they look very athletic on film. Their quarterback (Sharone Wright) is very athletic; he can run and throw it, and they get in a ton of different formations. Our defense will have their hands full just making sure they’re aligned correctly.”
“They’ll have a challenge this week, as Houston is one of the more athletic teams we’ve played in the  last several weeks. If we go out and take care of business and play sound football, I think we’ll be in good shape.”
Price spoke of his team’s character, which has shown throughout the season, and the Bulldogs know at this point, one mistake can end the season.
“We’ve stressed that to our kids, and they’ve come into practice focused and doing their job,” Price said. “We talked to the seniors, and they mean so much for us. No one is ready for them to be finished playing yet, so hopefully we’ll keeps working. We want to win Friday night and play as long as we can in the playoffs.”
Kickoff for Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m.
