Bulldogs prepare for round two

Louisville has a great tradition in football, one that coach Ron Price and his Bulldogs hope to build here in New Albany. Friday, the Bulldogs will take on the Wildcats in the second round of the 4A playoffs and hope to make another step toward a state title.
“We’ve tried to stress to our kids the tradition Louisville has,” Price said. “They’ve won seven state championships, and it’s important to them to be successful in the playoffs.”
“We want to build that kind of tradition here, and I told them, somewhere along the way, Louisville had to win that first state championship. If we can get this win, that will be us stepping in the right direction, hopefully to a state championship game.”
The Wildcats are 8-4 on the season and had one loss in division play to Noxubee County. Offensively, quarterback Wyatt Roberts has thrown for 2,650 yards and 25 touchdowns and has a host of receivers he turns to, led by Desmond Goss. The junior has 12 touchdown catches and 1,006 receiving yards, and Price also mentioned running back Cass Love, who has 1,769 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.
“Offensively, they will probably be the best team we’ve played all year,” he said. “Instead of having just one or two guys that we’ve had to focus on, they have four really good wide receivers, who are all capable of catching the ball and going to the end zone, and then their quarterback and running back are both very good players. We have to defend the entire field the entire game, because they’re capable of scoring at any time.”
Offensively, Price hopes to see his team remain competitive and continue the success from last week, scoring 34 points against Indianola Gentry.
“They run a five-man front, and they play their base defense the entire game. Hopefully we can put some points on them and make it a competitive contest.”
“We’ve challenged our kids all week and told them that this is the second round of the playoffs, so we’re going to play a quality opponent.”
