Bulldogs fired up for Lewisburg

The Bulldogs enter the final regular season game tonight, playing at Lewisburg.
After capturing its second division title in three years, the Bulldogs now face the 7-3 Patriots, who need a win to secure a playoff spot.

“It’s a big game for our guys being the last regular season game, and we want finish the season strong,” New Albany head coach Ron Price said. “Lewisburg has a lot to play for; they’re trying to get in the playoffs.”
“The biggest thing with us is that we’re going to find out what kind of football team we have. We need to take care of business and not overlook an opponent; not be content with winning the division, but going out and finishing the job and being undefeated in division play. We’ve had a good week in practice and we can go out and win the game and be healthy going into the playoffs next week.”
The Patriots are 2-2 in division play, coming off a win at North Pontotoc last week (29-26). Offensively, they are led by Xavier Morris, who has rushed for 1,006 yards and 15 touchdowns. Morris also has 105 receiving yards, and D.J. Steakley leads the team in passing with 607 yards and five touchdowns.
Lewisburg’s 7-3 record is the best in school history, and the Patriots also hope to make the playoffs for the first time with a win.
“They’re much better, and they were a good team last year,” Price. “They’re really promoting this game. It’s a big game for both teams, and hopefully it will be another exciting game Friday night.”
Newsome nears rushing record
Senior Boston Newsome is 126 yards away from New Albany’s rushing record, set by Jeremy Cannon. Newsome is coming off of last week’s game, where he rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns against Rosa Fort. Newsome also has a team high 19 touchdowns.
Tonight’s game at Lewisburg is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
