Former Bulldogs shined in the Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association for Better Baseball All-Star game, held at the Corinth City Park last Saturday.
Taylor Goode and Drew Wray earned Most Valuable Player and Defensive Most Valuable Player honors respectively for the West squad.
Goode and Pontotoc’s Kyle Russell each had two hits in the West’s 15-4 loss with Goode driving in the team’s second run in the fifth inning. Teammate Tyler Beaty also brought in one run in the eighth and pitched the first two innings, later relieved by Tyler Basil.
New Albany was well represented with five players on the West roster, and Joshua Googe rounded out the Bulldogs’ appearance registering a single.
The East dominated the 3A/4A/5A/6A game, posting eight runs before the West scored their first run in the fourth. Will Cox was named the East Most Valuable player, shutting down the West squad on the mound in the first two innings.
Cox was also named the Player of the Year. Russell rounded out the West’s honors, as he was named the Offensive Player of the Game.
The 1A/2A match-up opened the day with the East also earning a win, 8-5.
Ingomar’s Austin Gregory earned Defensive Player of the Game honors for the West, who led early in the match-up, 1-0 before Hamilton’s Chase Reeves and Smithville’s Steve Adams worked with bases loaded to give the East the lead, 2-1.
Falkner’s Will Robertson led all hitters with three hits, earning West Most Valuable Player honors. Robertson was also named the Player of the Year for 1A/2A.
